Hispanic Heritage Programs

Through the years, DanceInTime has produced many Hispanic Heritage Shows for many different offices, organizations, and venues, from government offices to church events, etc.

Generally these shows include some dance performances with comments about the origins of the dances and their underlying rhythms.  We have found that a very successful component of the shows is an inter-active portion where we provide very basic instruction on Merengue and/or Salsa dancing.  It gives those in the the audience who wish, a chance to try out a few steps, while others are welcome to watch and learn that way.  Those who watch the instruction actually learn a lot, too, and typically enjoy "cheering on" their friends who get up to dance!

Sometimes the programs include some description of the differences between the music underlying Salsa, Merengue, and Cha cha so the audience learns to distinguish the musical forms. Then we play some music and dance to it, asking the audience if they can guess which dance was being performed!

Barbara Bernstein has been hired as well to be keynote speaker, addressing the role of the arts in Latin culture, and the variety and commonality among the various Latin countries in the dances that are popular there.

When shows are done at government offices, care is taken to keep the costumes appropriately conservative and the programs tasteful as the sample videos below show.

We design each show individually and are very flexible.  Some programs have an emphasis on instruction and some are just performance oriented.  Some have a considerable educational component with discussion of which countries the dance is particularly popular in, and educational hand-outs are provided, etc.

DanceInTime is happy to work with special populations as well, making any accommodations necessary.
