Stuff Going On

1.  ONGOING Latin Nights and classes

Check out the "Classes" page of this website for an up-to-date schedule of all ongoing classes.  Our Saturday class is great fun and covers all levels: beginners, intermediate and advanced. Each level has a teacher so all can proceed at the appropriate pace. $15/person. Sign in 12:45 pm; dance till 3:45 pm. See details on the “Ongoing Classes” page. Location: Chevy Chase Baptist Church (Social Hall); 5671 Western Ave. NW; Washington DC 20015. Enter through the back corner door at corner of Belt Rd. NW and Northampton St. NW.
Note that on September 7, we’ll have a 45 minute class and then just “party” (social dancing) till 4 pm.

There is a class every Friday, 9-10 pm, upstairs at Bossa Bistro. After that, dance to the live band downstairs. Teachers are Barb Bernstein and others from DanceInTime. $10/person which includes the cover charge for the band downstairs. (Tell the doorman you are there for class so he won’t charge the cover!) The Silver Spring Salsa class on the last Thursday of each month at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring. It’s 7:30 to 8:30 pm for beginning and intermediate dancers. We’re in “classroom #1.” Park, go up the stairs and enter the building on your left. Then follow the sound of music or laughter! $10/person. 10309 New Hampshire Ave.; Silver Spring, MD 20903.

2. upcoming events

Barb and Guest instructor Glen will offer an Intermediate/Advanced Bootcamp on Thursday August 22, 2019, 7-10 pm. This will consist of three one hour sessions. The first session (7-8 pm) will be intermediate level moves that may blend some elements of L. A. style with Cuban style so they are very unique. In the second session (8-9 pm), Glen will teach styling, including a number of styling ideas for men. The last session (9-10 pm) will be on advanced moves which again may have some components that blend L. A. style and Cuban style so they are unique. Note intermediate and advanced dancers are welcome to take the first two sessions. The final session will be at an advanced level. (Intermediate dancers can stay and practice what they covered in earlier sessions.) Cost: one session: $15; two sessions: $25; three sessions: $30. Location: Music & Movement Room (on top floor) of Chevy Chase Baptist Church (5671 Western Ave NW; Washington DC 20015). Follow the signs to that room. Register by emailing Barb.

The City of Annapolis sponsors FREE Outdoor Salsa Nights down by the dock!  It's beautiful there--right by the water and the sailboats!  The next ones will be 6:30-9 pm on August 25 and September 29 (last Sunday of the month).  DIT will teach and DJ Simon will spin the inspirational music. The DanceInTime will hold an afternoon party on Saturday: Sept 14, 2019. There will be a 45 minute class and the remainder of the time will be for social dancing. This is in place of the usual Saturday class schedule of two class sessions. Come and party with us from 12:45 to 3:45 pm at the Chevy Chase Baptist Church Social Hall! 5671 Western Ave. NW; Washington DC 20015.

On Thursday September 12, from 6 to 10 pm, the University of Maryland’s “Studio A” (formerly Arts and Learning Center) is hosting a basic Latin Dance Bootcamp. This is in the Stamp Student Union but it’s open to the public. UMD sets the cost—contact them to register at: 301-314-ARTS or

The College Park Community Center will host a free Latin American Cultural Expo on Sat. Sept. 14 from 10 am to 2 pm that’s open to the public. They are having various performances including of course, Salsa, and Latin food vendors etc. DIT will provide entertainment from 11 am to noon—with Latin dance demonstrations and instruction.  Address: 5051 Pierce Ave; College Park, MD 20740

The Silver Spring Towne Center inc. has sponsored FREE outdoor Salsa Nights run by AM Salsa and DanceInTime. The last one will be 7-9 pm on Wed. September 25, 2019. The program includes a 30 minute dance lesson and lots of social dancing outdoors under a covered pavilion. This event is for all ages and is held rain or shine. It’s only cancelled for lightning or thunder. At 7:30 till 9 pm a Latin Band will play Salsa music! Address: 1 Veterans Plaza; Silver Spring, MD 20910 (corner of Ellsworth and Fenton). Parking lot across the street. SSTCI is gratefully acknowledged for their sponsorship of these fun dance evenings.

Note that on August 25 from 1 to 9 pm, there is a Harvest Moon Festival at the Veterans Plaza in Silver Spring with music and dance entertainment from. A Latin Band, Rafael Ortiz y Tumbao Urbano will be playing Salsa music at the event between 7:30 and 9 pm!

3. Barb’s Tedx Open Mic Talk

Barb Bernstein recently participated in a Tedx Talk Open Mic program. She spoke briefly about the health benefits of group synchronous movement (like Salsa Rueda dancing!):

6. Do you dance multiple styles?

Do you dance three or more styles, and are you interested in working with a Fusion Dance Company? If so, contact with a summary of your background. The company is working on pieces that include some musical theater, contact improv, abstract/contemporary dancing etc. Rehearsals are alternate Sunday evenings.
